Wines of Turkey is to hold its inaugural conference and trade tasting in February 2011, with the aim of launching its wines to the UK market.

Wines of Turkey is to hold its inaugural conference and trade tasting in February 2011, with the aim of launching its wines to the UK market.

Leading international wine experts, historians, DNA experts and viticulturalists will attend to discuss evidence that points to Turkey as being the possible birthplace of wine around 7000 B.C.


Turkey is the world's fourth largest grape-growing area and produces wines using indigenous grapes such as Emir and Narince for whites; and for reds, Kalecik Karasi, Okuzgozu and Bogazkere.


The Conference & Tasting 2011' for trade and press will include talks, Q&A sessions, tastings and masterclasses with: Dr Patrick E. McGovern, Scientific Director, Biomolecular Archaeology Laboratory, University of Pennsylvania Museum, Jancis Robinson OBE MW, Tim Atkin MW, and Charles Metcalfe.
