Drinks businesses are reporting "outstanding results" which means good job prospects, according to drinks recruitment agency, Chin Chin Jobs.

Despite a depressed economic outlook, it said a business survey by Source Catalyst Corporate Finance has just reported five established drinks businesses with growth of over 20%, which includes single malt whisky distiller Glenfiddich.

The agency also said food and drink is the largest manufacturing sector in the UK with an annual turnover of £70bn and is in robust health.

Julie Carling, director of Chin Chin Jobs, said: "We can't pretend that for most of us finding a job isn't tough at the moment, it is, but there are sectors out there which are buoyant and have career opportunities, the drinks sector is one of them.

"Certainly the wine industry and working with alcohol in general can offer those with the right skills a leg up the career ladder and a chance to change the course of their life."

Chin Chin Jobs said it is also noticing a high demand for engineers and logistics experts as well as openings for sommeliers, graduate buyers, marketers, sales people and quality control managers.

Carling adds: "There's a raft of vacancies which require transferable skills, you don't necessarily need to have had experience in the trade beforehand. There are specialist opportunities too; we currently have a role available as a yeast fermentation scientist, so the sky can be the limit."
