Free Portman training for online alcohol marketers

Published:  13 July, 2010

The Portman Group is offering free, interactive training to encourage responsible online marketing of alcohol products.

The group, which operates the industry's code of practice on the naming, packaging and promotion of alcoholic drinks, will explain the dos and don'ts of digital marketing using fictional examples created by marketing agency BD Network.

Portman chief executive David Poley said: "With over 18 million households in the UK now having access to the internet, it is critical that the drinks industry markets its products online in a socially responsible way.

"The Portman Group provides expert advice in this area and these sessions will provide marketing professionals with vital information on how the code applies to digital marketing."

Portman published guidelines last year on the responsible marketing of alcoholic drinks in digital media, which are available on its website.

The sessions are open to in-house drinks marketing teams or agencies working with the industry and will run in London, Manchester and Edinburgh during July, August and September. The first London session will be held at the Portman Group offices on July 28.
