The Co-op will showcase its fairtrade wines at this year's Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, as sole sponsor of the national TV awards show.

As part of the sponsorship, the retailer is providing the wine for the awards dinner, taking place on September 30, and has selected a range of its Fairtrade Reserve wines, which were launched last year.

The awards celebrate the achievements of the most inspiring and heroic people in the country and are attended by scores of A-list celebrities. In previous years, stars such as Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Helen Mirren and David & Victoria Beckham have taken part in the event.

Vicky Wood, category marketing manager for beverages at The Co-operative, said: "The Co-operative carries a market-leading range of award-winning Fairtrade wines, which we think are perfect for the red-carpet treatment.

"The Pride of Britain Awards provide a great opportunity for The Co-operative to showcase a number of beverages which we feel are best in class. We hope that the nominees and the celebrities alike will enjoy the drinks, and have a fantastic evening."

She added: "Whilst it's fantastic that so many celebrities will be able to sample our products, the real stars on the night will, of course, be the award winners themselves, who should prove an inspiration to us all."

The Pride of Britain Awards will be shown on ITV1 at 8pm, Wednesday 1 October 2008.
