Day 9 of Clare Valley Vintage - Shiraz looking promising

Published:  23 July, 2008

G'day Folks it's now exactly 6 mins until midnight and I'm due to start at Crabtree again in the morning at 6 am why am I still awake I ask??

My mind is buzzing what a crazy day I've not stopped since 6 this morningbetween KT and The Falcon Riesling processing and vintage intake at Crabtree - today was hectic.

The team did an amazing job with another record processing day of 11t. Having worked at a winery that processed 11t before you returned from a phone call, it is a giggle, but when you are only small - today was goliath and bonus points to everyone for making it work.

Whilst typing I'm enjoying a glass of cheeky Riesling to give me inspiration for its creation I find it always helps the warm weather has caused fruit to ripen very quickly and so the next 7 days will be very busy. Deep breath.

The deliciously ripe Shiraz from last week is due to be pressed in the next couple of days and so I'm very excited because it is starting to show some wonderfully textured tannin profile with its mulberry fruit sweetness. The Tempranillo on skins has just been inoculated and is this vibrant regal purple colour like nothing I've seen before and today's Riesling has made me do a happy dance. It was green with a natural pH of 3.1.. everyone start dancing please

I think I might be deliriously intoxicated on fructose right about now am I making any sense? time for bed me thinks or perhaps another glass of Riesling? If you can get out of town tonight check out the full moon it is enough to make you realise how beautiful this world really is and that wine is a natural creation from all its beauty and that clearly tonight I've turned into a lunar-tic good night.
