Mount and Paul team up for new wine website

Published:  23 July, 2008

Ex-Somerfield buyer Angela Mount and former Western Wines MD Mike Paul have announced details of a new website that offers wine advice and reviews for consumers.

lovethatwine.co.uk is a free and claims to be impartial website that includes a database on wines available in the UK, and gives consumers the chance to post their own reviews.

It will generate revenue from advertising, and while wines can be listed for free, the information will be basic; but for 150 per year per wine, retailers and suppliers can have their wine on the site with a full listing, including bottle shot, a direct route to purchase on their own website and linkage to the lovethatwine's search facility.

Search filters will include price, occasion, style, food matching and store availability.

Mount, an executive director of the project, along with Paul, told Harpers: We've already got 5,000 wines on the site, and had 50,000 visitors, without any marketing involvement. We're trying to make it the resource of choice for today's wine consumer. The site will help the consumer find the types of wine they want more easily. The site is in its infancy, but we believe in it and we believe that we have the credibility to get UK retailers on board.'

Paul said: We all talk about the problems in the wine category, but the solution has to be - given that consumption numbers may have peaked - to get those people who are into wine more heavily into it. The whole point of this is to promote consumer involvement.'

He added that numerous other web domains have been registered, including lovethatbeer, lovethatvodka and lovethatmusic. This is just the beginning of something that could become much bigger,' he said.

Mount has also teamed up with tasting organiser, Taste-In, to launch a new venture, Master Match food and wine matching service.

Clients will get a personal visit from Mount and the Taste-In team, who will talk guests through six wines and a food match for each one.

She said:?It's all about communicating the sensual aspect of the whole wining and dining experience, from appearance and aromas through to the tastes and textures of both food and wine.'
