Cité du Vin plans celebrations for its 10th anniversary year

Published:  01 April, 2026

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, wine museum and cultural centre the Cité du Vin is launching a ‘year of festivities’, with events and activities planned across 2026.

The Cité’s two cultural seasons (from January-June and September-December) will each have their own 10th anniversary theme, with interviews, talks and film screenings.

Other celebratory events will include a free photo exhibition (Around the World in 50 Wine Regions) and a selection of ‘ambassador’ wines from the photographed regions; the return of Via Sensoria, a ‘sensory tasting journey’ fully focused on Bordeaux and an exhibition of British photographer Martin Parr’s images of Bristol (Bordeaux’s twin city) and France – with wine as an underlying theme.

There will also be a more focused ‘party’ to celebrate the anniversary from 4-7 June, with events including an opening evening for the permanent exhibition; family activities; a VR vine pruning contest and a musical evening (including a live concert and DJ sets) in the garden, among others.

Commenting on the celebration, Philippe Massol, MD of the Cité du Vin, said: “The strength of the Cité du Vin is its ability to create innovative cultural activities that are accessible to all.

“With the permanent exhibition, renewed in 2023 to much acclaim, we have always been committed to reaching a wide audience with diverse expectations. We are very proud of how far we have come.”

The Cité du Vin first opened its doors on 1 June 2016 and since then has received over 3.5 million visitors, with an average of 400,000 a year.

As Harpers reported at the start of this year, the Cité said that the majority of its visitors have been international (55%), with 9.9% from Spain, 8.3% from the US, 7.2% from the UK, 6% from Germany and 4.4% from Italy.

Of the French visitors (45% of the total), 28% were tourists, 7% were day trippers and 10% lived in Bordeaux.

The cultural institution is dedicated to the “universal, living heritage of wine”.

Its programme of events is available on the Cité's website here.
