New on-trade ambassador for the wines of Chile

Published:  23 July, 2008

As part of a new drive to increase shelf space for Chilean wines in the UK on-trade, Wines of Chile sponsored a 2006 Travel Award for the Academy of Food and Wine Services.

The winner was announced at the London-based awards ceremony on Thursday 28 September and Susanne Arensmann, head sommelier at London's Oxo Tower Restaurant, has won a 10-day trip to Chile - which will include visits to Casablanca, Maipo and Colchagua - after providing the most impressive suggestions for making the most of Chile's growing wine quality and diversity on a wine list.

Michael Cox, Wines of Chile's UK director, told Harpers: The calibre of entry was very high, with sommeliers from some of the UK's top restaurants sending in well-thought-out responses.'

This sponsorship is part of a wider on-trade campaign from Wines of Chile, which has also involved taking a stand hosting a seminar at the recent Restaurant Show at London's Olympia. Future plans include taking part in the forthcoming on-trade event Wine+ in January, running a promotion with Geronimo Inns (a 15-strong chain of gastro pubs in London) and organising a terroir tour' of Chile, which will take leading sommeliers out to some of the country's top estates and valleys.
