Record NZ vintage

Published:  23 July, 2008

The 2006 New Zealand harvest is the largest ever, with the figure of 185,000 tonnes beating the previous record, set in 2004, by 11%. Sauvignon Blanc accounted for around half the total, at 96,000 tonnes.

Philip Gregan, chief executive of New Zealand Wine Growers, said: Despite the increased harvest, demand continues to outstrip supply in our key markets such as the USA, UK and Australia.'

Exports are expected to increase to around 75 million litres in 2007, up from around 60 million litres this year.
