Prowein: Penfolds tops ranking at Agile Media’s The World’s Most Admired Wine Brands 2019

The World’s Most Admired Wine Brands 2019 has seen Penfolds top the poll for the fist time since 2016.

The announcement was made at an awards evening in in Düsseldorf on the opening day of Prowein (17 March).

Penfolds was followed in 2nd place by Torres. Villa Maria came third with Concha y Toro in Fourth. France’s M. Chapoutier finished fifth.

The awards are the result of an international industry survey conducted by Agile Media title Drinks International, in association with Wine Intelligence.

The brands were chosen by the Drinks International’s Academy of global drinks buyers and specifiers from 48 countries. They were asked which global wine brands they most admired and could pick any wine brand or choose from a list. The votes were then whittled down to the top 50 to determine the final rankings.

Other highlights from the awards include France having 15 brands on the list, followed by Australia, with eight. Europe had the most wine brands with 24 in the list from France, Spain, Italy and Hungary.

Sassicaia, Italy was the highest climber on the list, climbing 23 places to finish in sixth. Ridge, USA took tenth place and was The Most Admired Wine Brand in North America, while Château Musar, Lebanon, which finished at number 22, was The Most Admired Wine Brand in Middle East & Africa.

The highest new entry was Jean Marc Brocard, France, which appeared at number 31.
