La Compagnie de La Burgondie secures first major UK off-trade listing

Published:  16 September, 2018

La Compagnie de La Burgondie has secured its first major UK off-trade deal.

Distributed in the UK by Bibendum, the co-operative’s Aligoté 2017 is being rolling out into Tesco stores across the country now.

With its £9 price tag, the “consumer-friendly” La Burgondie offered an “affordable and quality-driven” Burgundy brand, said La Compagnie’s export off-trade manager Bruno Boucher.

“Our mission is to deliver an affordable and quality-driven Burgundy brand that is easy to navigate for consumers and La Burgondie Aligoté is a fantastic first example to launch into the UK.

Aimed at the UK off-trade, La Burgondie represents key appellations and crus of La Grande Bourgogne, via a range comprising over thirty still and sparkling wines from throughout Burgundy and Beaujolais.

Often overshadowed by its more famous Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Burgundian cousins, and in the past criticised for being a difficult grape to ripen, Aligoté has in recent years "made terms of quality", said La Burgondie, adding winemakers had taken a more serious approach to production in line with “recognising its true potential”.

The overall quality of Aligoté production has been much improved in recent years through winemaking advances and better ripening conditions. As a result, it is becoming increasingly discovered and enjoyed by wine drinkers who appreciate its refreshing, fruity, zingy qualities,” said winemaker Alain Pierre.

Formed in 2015, La Compagnie de Burgondie represents more than 350 winegrowing families going back four generations.
