Aussie producers gear up for bumper month of UK events

Published:  30 August, 2018

A large contingent of Australian producers is hoping to take the UK by storm with a month-long series of wine events.

More than 60 winemakers, winery owners and principals from the country will touch down to take part of the events poised to run through out next month (September) across the UK, where they will be sharing their stories and wines.

This year’s push includes a new Off the Vine event that will take place at The Steel Yard marking the first wine tasting to take place in the location to date.

Set under the railway arches of London’s Cannon Street station, the trade event will showcase the “new, the bold and the extraordinary”, with 36 pioneering winemakers set to unveil the new wave of Australian wine, including alternative varieties, new styles and wines with little or no intervention.

Other events include Mornington Winemakers on Tour, Liberty Wines Australia Portfolio Tasting, The Australian Cellar Launch, Out the Box Young Importer Tasting and Langmeil Barossa Workshop Series.

With the Australian wine landscape “more exciting than ever”, now was the time to challenge preconceptions and show the “exceptional quality and diversity” of the country’s wines, said Laura Jewell MW, regional general manager EMEA, Wine Australia.

“It’s incredible to have such a talented group of winemakers and principals visit the UK to tell stories about the people, the places and processes that make Australian wine unique,” she said.

Winemakers and winery owners taking part include Martin Spedding (Ten Minutes by Tractor), Brendan and Kirstyn Keys (BK Wines), James Erskine (Jauma), Virginia Willcock (Vasse Felix), Chris Tyrrell (Tyrrell’s), Iain Riggs (Brokenwood Wines) and Stephanie Toole (Mount Horrocks).
