Flint Wines boosts Italian portfolio with organic wines

Fine wine importer Flint Wines has agreed a new collaboration for organic-certified wines with three Italian estates.

Wines from the three estates of Andrea Felici in Le Marche, Marangona in Lugana and Tenuta di Castellaro in Lipari will be distributed across both the on and off-trade.

The move follows news that organic wines are growing in popularity with increasing consumer demand.

Waitrose revealed earlier this week that its own organic wine sales are up 57% year-on-year as customers look for more sustainable wines.

Andrea Felici is run by Leopardo Felici, son of Andrea, who has been at the helm of the estate in Le Marche since 2008. The winery based in Verdicchio, Azienda Agricola has a unique microclimate and terroir that enables it to produce both rich and aromatic wines. The vineyards are situated 400 to 600 meters above sea level and are largely influenced by the Adriatic sea breezes.

The Marangona estate is located on the border of the Veneto and Lombardia, south of Lake Garda with vines varying from five to 50 years. Vinification is conducted with fermentation at low temperature and whole bunch pressed, with only the free run juice used.

Lastly, Tenuta di Castellaro is a family-owned estate on the island of Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian islands north of Sicily. Massimo Lentsch set up the estate in the late 1990s and it is part of the ‘I Vigneri’ consortium - a group of twelve Sicilian wineries. They focus on indigenous varietals such as Corinto Nero Carricante, Nero d’Avola and Malvasia di Lipari.

Italian buyer, Philippa Saunders said: “We are delighted to add these three dynamic producers to our burgeoning Italian range.

“Over the past two years, we have really focused on our Italian portfolio and are pleased to include some of the country’s very finest producers. Italy is one of the most exciting wine regions at the moment. Improvements in winemaking and viticulture management means that quality has never been better.”

Flint Wines has also started working with famous estates I Clivi and Borgo del Tiglio.
