Last call for indies to sign up to Shop Rioja

Independent wine retailers have a last chance to enter Shop Rioja and win £1,000 towards new listings of the Spanish region's wines.

With the 31 July deadline for entries fast approaching, indies are urged to sign up to the campaign - organised by Wines from Rioja in partnership with Harpers - to be in with a chance to win the price, boost their Rioja sales and educate both staff and customers.

To be involved and take the opportunity to get behind Spain’s flagship wine region, participants simply have to include a range of Rioja wines from at least five different producers, one of which must be white or rosé.

It is left up to the individual retailer to decide how to highlight Rioja during the month-long promotion, but this might include in-store and online tastings, winemaker visits, or tasting flights of top quality Rioja wines.

PoS packs will be send to participating outlets ahead of the promotion, which runs throughout October, but are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis so registering early is recommended.

“Shop Rioja forms the backbone of our independent retailer activity and retailers really get involved and go to great lengths to share their passion and enthusiasm for the region which is so great to see,” said Wines from Rioja.

Last year, more than 100 retailers and restaurants from around the UK took part and enjoyed on average a 229% increase in sales of their Rioja wines during the promotion.
