Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Sommelier 2018 revealed

Published:  27 March, 2018

The UK arm of leading international gastronomic body Chaîne des Rôtisseurs GB has announced its Young Sommelier 2018.

The award, which is presented annually to encourage emerging talent in the hospitality industry, this year went to Aymeric Pollenne who has just joined the soon-to-be opened Hide restaurant in Piccadilly.

Pollenne along with four other finalists all aged between 21 and 30 attended the awards ceremony at the Dorchester on Friday, having previously competed to show their practical skills and creativity at Gaggenau showrooms in West London.

Pollenne along with Young Chef 2018, Kayla Tuvey of the Deer Park Hotel, Devon, will now prepare to represent the UK at the international finals in September.

The award, which is judged by some of the biggest names in the industry including Stephen Spurrier and chaired by Gerard Basset MW MS, aims to encourage careers within the industry, at a time when hospitality providers are having to work harder than ever before to retain and provide opportunities for staff.

“The future of fine dining world-wide depends on the talent and enthusiasm of young people joining the hospitality industry today,” Philip Evins, Bailli Délégué for the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, concurred.

“This is the Chaîne's way of supporting them, and encouraging them in their chosen careers. It takes time to reach the standard of a winner, and we like to walk beside them as they build their skillsets. We are very proud, too, to enable them to them represent the UK in the global finals.”

The top four who made it to the final of the GB competition were Alexander Freguin from Moor Hall near Liverpool, Tony le Curoux from Nortcote Manor in Blackburn, Matteo Montone from Edition, London and Aymeric Pollene from 85 Piccasilly, also London.
