Chinese investor Peter Kwok buys seventh Bordeaux vineyard

Published:  08 January, 2018

Chinese investor Peter Kwok has acquired his seventh vineyard in Bordeaux with the purchase of Château Bellefont-Belcier - a Grand Cru Classé estate in Saint-Emilion.

Château Bellefont-Belcier is 13.5ha estate located between Château Larcis Ducasse and Château Tertre Roteboeuf on the ‘south coast’ of Saint-Emilion.

Vignobles K, Kwok’s vineyard holding company, will manage the estate.

Jean-Christophe Meyrou, general manager of Vignobles K, declined to disclose the sale price of the acquisition, but told Harpers the purchase had been made at a “price lower than recent vineyard acquisitions in Bordeaux”.

The location, terroir and quality of wine produced at the estate would provide added value to Vignobles K’s portfolio of Bordeaux vineyards, which includes Château Tour Saint Christophe, Château Haut Brisson, Château La Patache, Enclos Tourmaline, Enclos de Viaud and Château Le Rey, said Meyrou.

“Vignobles K is surfing on a great wave, we have almost sold out of wine at the existing estates in Bordeaux, so this acquisition has great potential for distribution on the open markets to the UK and worldwide,” he said.

Vignobles K was involved in the 2017 harvest of Chateau Bellefont-Belcier prior to the acquisition of the estate.

“In the 2017 vintage, we reduced yields by 35% showing that our focus is on high quality,” Meyrou, adding Château Bellefont-Belcier was a sleeping beauty.
