Matt Pym to lead “ambitious growth” plan at Vintae UK

Published:  18 December, 2017

Majestic’s former head buyer has joined Spanish and Chilean producer Vintae to head-up the producer’s plan to “heavily invest” in the UK and Ireland.

Matt Pym, who was with Majestic for many years, will be managing sales of the group as Vintae prepares to make further inroads in the UK’s on- and premium off-trades.

Vintae was founded in 1999 and now has multiple brands from across all DOs of Spain and also southern Chile.

Having passed the role overseeing buying at Majestic to Cat Lomax in June, Pym will now be turning his attention to pushing Vintae’s UK strategy which will focus on the Matsu and López de Haro brands in 2018.

He said: "I was a great advocate of [Vintae’s] and listed many of their wines during my tenure at Majestic. Vintae is a genuinely consumer focused, innovative and forward thinking producer, constantly trying new things and thinking outside of the box. Their award winning wines and packaging are testament to this, and I am thrilled to be working with them.”

Vintae has built a USP around its championing of terroir-driven examples Garnacha and has also moved into organics, biodynamics and natural winemaking.

Ricardo Arambarri Perez, Vintae general manager, gave a hint of the “ambitious plans” the company has for the UK and Ireland.

“Things are falling into place and we are excited to heavily invest into the UK market and to build our wines’ reputation both in premium off-trade retailers and in the on-trade,” he said.

“Matt is the perfect guy for the job and we are looking forward to the future.”
