The body which overseas an promotes premium wines from southern France, is due to hold its first annual tasting since the Occitanie region was extended to include both the Languedoc-Roussillon and the Sud Ouest.

Sud de France, the umbrella brand for wine, food, tourism and well-being products from the newly extended region of Occitanie, will be holding its annual Rising Stars Tasting on Thursday, October 20.

The tasting will showcase the best wines that are currently being made in the region, but are as yet unavailable in the UK market.

Thirteen quality producers from across Occitanie have been selected to represent the region at Maison de la Région in central London, for the first time to the UK trade.

Before appearing at the prestigious event, all of the wines have to go through a rigorous selection process by both UK and French wine media to ensure consistently high standards.

Wine writers in the UK were asked to send their current top picks of producers from the Occitanie that they felt were making extra special wines at the top end of the quality spectrum.

Producers were also selected who had appeared and been positively rated over the last few years in France's top wine trade magazines such as Revue des Vins de France.

"This is an essential tasting for anyone looking to enhance their Southern French wines portfolio at the premium end," Isabelle Kanaan, executive director of Sud de France said.

"These are the region's most highly regarded exporters who are looking to secure partnerships with the UK trade."

Exhibitors at the this year's tasting include: Domaine de la Rencontre - IGP Pays d'Hérault; Domaine du Joncas - Pascal Dalier - AOC Terrasses du Larzac, AOC Languedoc Montpeyroux, IGP Hérault; and Domaine La Coume-Lumet - AOC Crémant de Limoux, AOC Limoux, IGP Haute Vallée de l'Aude.

In the lead up to the tasting there are two other events: UK Distributors' Portfolio Tasting and 10th Anniversary Celebrations on October 5, and the Sud de France Sommelier Competition, on October 3, which is now in its 8th year.
