Walker & Wodehouse expands South Australian portfolio with "punk" wine listing

Published:  31 August, 2016

Wine merchants Walker & Wodehouse has added SOME YOUNG PUNKS from the Clare Valley to its portfolio.

Passion has Red Lips 2014 and The Squids Fist 2015 will be presented at the Walker & Wodehouse autumn tastings next week in London and Bristol and the complete range will be available to independent retailers from September 26.

The SOME YOUNG PUNKS team includes Col McBryde, one of the original Young Guns of Wine - founders of the Young Guns of Wine Awards celebrating innovation and talent since 2007.

Launching in 2006 with McBryde, his partner Jen Gardner and Nic Bourke at the helm, SOME YOUNG PUNKS, was initially a repository for excess fruit.

What started out as secondary project quickly turned into a full time business, pairing fresh and vibrant wine style with bold packaging and a tongue-in-cheek tagline, "We blame the booze".

VINE MIND is the latest creation from the trio - hand-picked Clare Valley in the form of a 2015 Riesling and 2014 Shiraz Malbec.

Their labels are the product of Australian graffiti artist, KAB101.

The VINE MIND wines will be joining the Walker & Wodehouse portfolio alongside the SOME YOUNG PUNKS line-up of; Quickie! Sauvignon Blanc, The Squid's Fist Sangiovese Shiraz, Naked on Roller Skates Shiraz Mataro, and Passion has Red Lips Shiraz Cabernet.

Gareth Groves, managing director of Walker & Wodehouse said: "We are delighted that Col and his team have chosen to work with us. The wines have a strong pedigree with independent retailers and are a perfect fit for our customers. As well as being brilliant wines, they are dynamic, unusual and offer a real point of difference."
