Deliveroo partners with Majestic and BrewDog to offer alcohol delivery service

Food delivery startup Deliveroo has partnered with eight Majestic Wines across London and 20 BrewDog locations nationally in order to start delivering beers, wines and spirits.

Deliveroo, which started with the simple idea of acting as a courier between resturants who don't have their own take-away service and the customer, is diversifying its offering to now include alcohol.

As well as ordering food, customers can now get booze from independent merchants such as Lea and Sandeman in Barnes, Honest Brew, Mother Kellys in Bethnal Green and Vagabond Wines in Soho delivered direct to their doorstep: and order pre-bottled cocktails from on-trade venues like White Lyan in London.

"Majestic Wines and BrewDog are perfect launch partners for us offering great pairings for meals ordered on Deliveroo and by working with independent merchants like Clapton Craft and Humble Grape we're continuing to champion the UK's independent businesses as well," said Dan Warne, managing director of UK and IE at Deliveroo.

The startup has been backed by top investors and the diversification comes after Devliveroo found "strong consumer demand" for an alcohol delivery service.

Deliveroo users can order from eight Majestic Wine stores in London from today (July 19): St John's Wood, Guildford, Covent Garden, Battersea, Hove, Islington, Mayfair and Holland Park.

Deliveroo faces stiff competition from others in the rapidly growing alcohol delivery sector.

Just last month, taxi pick-up service Uber launched UberEats in London and it doesn't look it will be long before Amazon's one-hour alcohol delivery service makes its way from the US to the UK.
