Flint Wines to showcase extensive new Italian portfolio at annual tasting

Published:  04 March, 2016

London-based supplier Flint Wines will be showcasing its Italian portfolio at its annual tasting on March 15.

Flint's range of Italian wines has been greatly expanded following its merger with Italian import specialists HS Wines in May last year.

Fifteen new wineries have been added to Flint's Italian list in total, spread across both classic and lesser known regions of Italy.

All are characterised by small production from old vines, being quality driven with minimum grape handling and true to their geographic origins.

Winemakers from seven of these estates will be at the tasting and taking part in masterclasses on Tuscany: north vs south and Italy's indigenous grape varieties.

They will also be participating in a debate on the relative merits of Barolo and Brunello, trying to decide which is the greatest Italian wine.

The producers present will be Raffaella Bissoni from Bissoni, Romagna; Paolo Caciorgna from Paolo Caciorgna, Mount Etna; Valter Fissore of Elvio Cogno, Piedmont; Marco Ricasoli of Rocca di Montegrossi, Chianti Classico; Luca Sbernadoni from Palazzo Vecchio, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano; Gigliola and Viola Gorelli from Tenuta Le Potazzine, Montalcino; and Alberto Tanzini from Roccapesta, Morellino di Scansano.

Other Italian wineries new to Flint which will be exhibited at the tasting include Cantina Bolzano; Borgoluce; Ciropicariello; Mannuci Droandi; Frozza; Azienda Agricola Mauro Franchino; KuenHof; and Roagna.

Hector Scicluna, founder and owner of HS Wines who was responsible for developing the range, has stayed with Flint Wines as a consultant.

Jason Haynes, director of Flint Wines, said: "Hector Scicluna built up a fantastic list of high-class, artisanal producers with the same approach to buying wines as we have, with quality and authenticity being his main considerations.

"This tasting gives us the opportunity to show off these wonderful estates for the first time and many of the producers will be coming over to present their wines."

Other features of the event will include a blind-tasting seminar and a blind-tasting competition.

Flint Wines was founded in 2006, and is best known for its 150-strong portfolio of  Burgundy and North American wineries.

The tasting will take place at No 4 Hamilton Place, London W1J 7B from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
