Flint looks to Brooklyn's Red Hook for latest US winery listing

Published:  04 January, 2016

On-trade supplier Flint Wines has signed an exclusive deal to add Brooklyn's Red Hook Winery to its US portfolio.

Founded in 2008, Red Hook is Flint Wines' first New York State producer.

It sources grapes from fifteen different vineyards in the Finger Lake and North Fork American viticultural areas.

Its three winemakers - Abe Schoener, Robert Foley and Christopher Nicolson - each have the freedom to make a different wine from each batch of grapes.

Red Hook consequently produces up to 26 wines from each vintage.

The company's winery is in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn.

Sam Clarke, American buyer at Flint Wines, said: "The quality of the wines coming out of Red Hook is unlike anything else that we have tasted from the East Coast.

"We are not only confident that people will be surprised to taste what is possible in New York, but also that these wines will firmly establish New York as a serious area on the map of quality wine regions of the USA."

Flint is at present intending to list six Red Hook wines, including the 2013 Steinertal - Abe Schoener with an RRP of £15.85, the 2013 Macari Vineyard Chardonnay - Robert Foley at £17.95 and the 2014 McCall Vineyard Merlot - Christopher Nicolson at £17.95.

Established in 2006, Flint Wines specialises in the wines of Burgundy, North America and Italy.

Its North American portfolio currently comprises 20 wineries across California, Washington and Oregon.
