Borsa Vini Italiani tastings revealed for London and Manchester 2016

Published:  02 December, 2015

The Italian Trade Commission has announced the dates of its trade-only Borsa Vini Italiani tastings in January 2016.

The two tastings in London and Manchester will showcase a wide range of wines from the length and breadth of the Italian peninsula, many of which have not been presented to the UK trade before.

Owners and winemakers will be on hand to give those attending a rare opportunity discuss the wines and their stories directly.

Fortunato Celi Zullo, director of the Italian Trade Commission, said: "We are delighted to bring this tasting to the UK and allow access to these fabulous wines and producers.

"We will be focusing on connecting key businesses from Italy and the UK in a forum that is specifically aimed at importers, independents and restaurant trade - and also on gaining further exposure for the diversity, quality and value coming out of Italy."

The tastings will have a particular focus on the wines of southern Italy, with Calabria, Puglia, Campania and Sicily to the fore.

Peter McCombie MW will be leading masterclasses to demystify the produce of these lesser known regions. "Italy produces many world-class wines, but the sheer scale and variety of wines can be daunting to outsiders," McCombie said.

"I have long enjoyed the diversity of Italian wines but beyond some big names, mostly from the north, the country can seem impenetrable.

"I am delighted to be presenting seminars, which will focus on wines from southern regions that offer wines of diverse and distinctive character and often exceptional value."

The Manchester tasting takes place on Tuesday, January 19 at Manchester Town Hall from 10.30 to 18.00.

The London tasting is at the Sheraton Park Lane hotel in Piccadilly. It runs from 12.00 to 18.00 on Thursday, January 21.
