Quintessential to create Manchester base for new Dakin small batch gin

Published:  23 July, 2015

Quintessential Brands is to build a distillery in Manchester to make a new small batch gin.

The company has already begun making the Thomas Dakin gin at its G&J Distillers plant in Warrington but will transfer to the new site when completed.

It described the gin as "a classic style juniper-led gin" named after the creator of the founder of the world's oldest gin distiller in 1761.

Master distiller Joanne Moore made the 21st century version in a baby pot still using 11 botanicals including horseradish - known as red cole in the 18th century - in addition to conventional ingredients such as juniper, orange peel and coriander.

Moore said: "We have created a delicious small batch gin which is juniper-led, with sweet orange and citrus notes on the palate and a smooth, savoury finish thanks to the cubebs and red cole."

The gin has listings with Harvey Nichols in Manchester and Booths supermarkets.

It is bottled at 42% abv and the rrp is £29.
