Bottle Apostle set to open fourth shop in London

Published:  07 May, 2015

Independent London wine merchant Bottle Apostle is set to open its fourth shop, which will be sited in the former London 2012 Olympic Athlete's village.

The new shop sits close to the East Village complex at Stratford, a new residential development. It will offer 550 wines, with sixteen wines available to taste from a 16-bottle Enomatic tasting machine. As with its existing stores, new wines will be added to the machines regularly, with customers able to choose samples from 30ml, 60ml or 90ml, from around 70p - £3 for a 30ml sample.

The shop will also house its  dedicated craft beer and cider 'store', The Brew Testament, as well as stocking spirits and premium sake.

Owner Andrew Eakin said it felt natural to return to East London, where Bottle Apostle opened its first shop, in Victoria Park, Hackney in 2009. Further sites in Crouch End following in 2012 and Clapham, Abbeville Road in March 2014 and the company is already planning a fifth site.

"We have always opened shops in areas in which residents share this love of the independent spirit. It's this idea that has led to our successes in our Hackney, Crouch End and Clapham shops," he said.

The focus on building an independent community was a major draw, he added.

"East Village represents an entirely new way of living in London, and we're ecstatic to be able to be a part of this change."

It will also run informal tastings in-store of both wines, beers and spirits, ranging from beginners 'how to taste wine' events to food matching with specific regional wines. It also intends to roll out its a monthly grazing hour, which are operated across its other stores, This allows customers to buy tickets for the Enomatic machines with nibbles supplied by collaborating local restaurants.
