Former Jascots' training manager launches new wine school in London

Published:  05 May, 2015

Raul Diaz the former training manager and head sommelier for Jascots Wine Merchants has launched his own wine education school called WineTraining Limited.

WineTraining Limited will offer WSET certified courses by Diaz who is an approved programme provider on site at the Maida Vale location.  He also does private courses and events for clients, either individuals or business like hotels and restaurants.

A key differentiator of his course offerings will be his ability to do training on-site for his on-trade clients.

"I will be able to run courses on-site if the clients wants. I have already done this before so it is not a problem. Already my clients and people are quite keen because they don't  need to send their staff to me, I can go to them. It can happen rather quickly as well.  That is a critical point of differentiation.  Being able to visit the client and do trainings on-site makes a massive difference. They can save time by doing that.  We're really helping," said Diaz.

Diaz worked at Jascots Wine Merchant for four years doing the training for all of Jascots clients and recognised the potential in the market. Prior to his role at Jascots he has had extensive experience in the on-trade at Michelin-star restaurants, luxury cruise ships and working at an independent merchant.

His experience he believes is an additional value-add for all his clients as he can help them develop a career and provide guidance in addition to preparing them for the Wine and Education Trust exams. Diaz said: "The fact is that I would like to add value to the Wine and Spirits Education Trust approach because I have so much experience in hospitality."

Diaz will continue to work with WSET and being a certified programme instructor is also something that he believes sets him apart. "We are a certified approved programme provider. It is very important to me that people know when they come to me, they know they are going to get a certified and serious place to learn. You can learn having fun, but with a particular approach."
