Fine wines sales from Burgundy and Rhone see strong demand, e-merchant says

Published:  14 April, 2015

Online prices for fine wines from Burgundy and the Rhône rose in March, according to international fine wine e-merchant iDealWine - but Bordeaux prices have fallen by around 1.23%.

Market analysis from the online fine wine merchant saw the price of wines from the Rhone Valley rise 6.95% in the first three months of the year. Burgundy also up 5.49% on the back of strong demand and the weak Euro, which provided attractive pricing to buyers outside the Eurozone. THis helped drive the overall indices of iDealwine WineDex, it said, which saw an overall increase of 3.85%.

Sales of Bordeaux however has largely static, remaining at 1.23% since the start of this year. Vintage 2010 in particular has struggled to find buyers, iDealWine said, even before the lull that signals the start of the pre-en primeur campaign. However auctions held this month saw stronger demand for vintages over ten years old as well as for the 2009 vintage.

The company also reported strong demand for white Burgundy from Auvenay and Coche-Dury in recent aucitons, with interest from French, Russian and Chinese private and professional buyers.

The wine sold is sourced from private European cellars and directly from wineries.
