Laphroaig to release limited edition 200th anniversary commemorative whisky

Published:  21 April, 2015

In celebration of Laphroaig's 200th anniversary the iconic Islay single malt scotch maker will be releasing a limited edition 15 year old.

Laphroaig is the number one selling Islay single malt Scotch whisky.  Laphroaig's 15 year old was released more than 30 years ago and John Campbell, Laphroaig's distillery manager decided to re-release the 15 year old in the same style as the original 15 release.

The style of the 15 year old released three decades ago is a lower level of peat and higher bv of 43%. Campbell felt that for the 200th anniversary it was an opportunity to bring back one of the greats.

The commemorative bottle release is part of an overall campaign celebrating its 200 year history, which will also include a competition allowing consumers a chance to win a trip to the distillery in Isaly to attend "Laphroaig Live", a global whisky event that set to be held for the first time in nine years.

The competition is centred around consumers posting their thoughts about the whisky.  The top 200 options will be displayed on tiles on the distillery wall and the authors of the best selected comments and opinions will then be chosen for the trip to Islay.

For more for about the '200 opinions' competition information visit Laphroaig.

The whisky will be available in secret retails but will be distributed by Maxxium UK with an RRP £75.
