Tim Atkin takes the Vinopolis stage for Skin Côntact Comic Relief gig

Published:  16 February, 2015

Anyone in the wine trade who has been on the receiving end of a review by wine critic and journalist Tim Atkin MW - good or bad - will get the chance to give him a critique back when he bravely takes the stage as one of the guest singers for the ever growing Skin Côntact band when it plays its one off gig on March 9 to raise money for Comic Relief.

Perhaps the staff at Vinopolis might want to grab a ticket for the show following Atkin's critical review recently on Harpers.co.uk of the wine themed venue which just happens to be where the concert is taking place.

Atkin will be showing off his singing talents alongside the likes of BBC's Food and Drink Joe Wadsack, Waitrose's Anne Jones and the Wine Society's Ewan Murray as well as his IWC co-chair Charles Metcalfe.

Behind them pulling the whole thing together will be the members of Skin Côntact that includes Richard Hemming on keyboars, Alex Hunt, Berkmann Wines on lead guitar, Ben Smith of Concha y Toro on bass, Matt James on drums as well as Anne McHale MW of Berry Bros & Rudd and PR star, Helen Chesshire on backing vocals.

All will be banging out classic retro hits over the last few decades for the event which is sponsored by Cotes du Rhone wines. Remember to get your tickets here.

Time Atkin's musical likes and dislikes

So you're going to be fronting the greatest (and only) wine trade covers band of all time. How does that feel?

Somewhere between scary and exciting

Those were the days by Mary Hopkin. I was about eight or nine.

Who are your favourite musicians these days?

Keith Jarrett, The Waterboys, Gretchen Peters, Kelly Joe Phelps

Top three all-time classic albums?

Who's Next? Dark Side of the Moon, Keith Jarrett Live at the Blue Note

And your idea of musical purgatory?

Any form of RAP

What's been the most rock and roll moment of your life so far?

I once sang in a band that supported Squeeze at my school disco. We were called Granite...

We should probably mention wine too, I suppose. What was the last wine you drank?

A 2010 Vietti Barolo

 Any good?

Certainly was. 2010 is a great vintage in so many places

Is there a particular wine you've always wanted to taste?

I've never tasted Screaming Eagle. Apart from that, I've been lucky enough to taste all of the world's great wines at some point.

How about your fall-back, failsafe bottle to crack open when you have guests?

Hard to beat Domaine Roulot's Bourgogne Blanc

And what are your favourite Rhône appellations / producers?

Hermitage. Chave and Chapoutier

Finally, what's on your rider for backstage at Skin Côntact LIVE?

What's a rider? Ipod? I think it may be the songs I'm singing
