Armit Wines boosts Tuscan portfolio with Fattoria Le Pupille

Published:  13 February, 2015

Armit Wines, UK distributor for a host of Italy's icon wines, has added southern Tuscany's Fattoria Le Pupille to its portfolio.

The company, which already distributes some of Italy's most well-known wines including Sassicaia, Angelo Gaja and Ornellaia, says interest in Tuscan wines from UK consumers is "at a new high".

Le Pupille is located in southern Tuscany's Maremma region and the estate covers 75 hectares under the DOCG of Morellino di Scansano. Considered the appellation's leading property, the estate produces eight wines. Its most famous is Saffredi, launched in 1987 by owner Elisabetta Gepetti and consultant winemaker Giacomo Tachis.

ArmitElisabetta Gepetti, owner of Fattoria Le PupilleArmit Wines has just taken on the exclusive UK agency for souther Tuscany's Fattoria Le Pupille.

Gepetti's belief in the vineyard and desire to bring its wines to a wider audience has the emergence of both Morellino di Scansano as an appellation - with elevation to DOCG as recently as 2006 - and Le Pupille as an internationally-acclaimed winery.

Gepetti said: "After many years of experience in the UK market, I realised that Armit Wines is the company that can best represent our brand and contribute to making our wines known, wines which for years have been flag bearers of Maremma throughout the world. I am most excited and very much looking forward to seeing the positive results of what I hope will be a long lasting and prosperous relationship."

Mike Laing, Armit's managing director, said: "We have a deep-rooted commitment to Italy and to Tuscany in particular and are convinced by the greatness of the region's wines and in the diversity that it offers. Elisabetta's wines have been well known to us for some time and it is a sheer joy to now bring them to our customers. She can take enormous credit for the emergence of this corner of the region and we look forward to building the profile of these great wines in the UK in the years ahead".

The wines will be available to taste at the Armit Wines Italian tasting on March 3 at LSO St Luke's in London.

Armit is based in London's Notting Hill and operates an office in Hong Kong. The business is multi-channel and covers private clients, fine wine trading, retail and wholesale. It also supplies almost all of the UK's Michelin-starred restaurants.
