Great Western Wine reports strong 2014 sales helped by surge in Christmas trading

Great Western Wine has reported strong 2014 sales up 14% on the previous year with a particularly strong Christmas trading period where it increased sales by 25% year-on-year.

Great Western Wine has reported strong 2014 sales up 14% on the previous year with a particularly strong Christmas trading period where it increased sales by 25% year-on-year.

The business, which serves mostly the on-trade across the south west of England as well as running its own retail store in Bath and a website which now has national coverage, was acquired by Enotria in 2010. Its online side of the business continues to grow with a 44% sales lift over the festive season and an annual sales increase of 33% in 2014.

"We made sure our price, quality and service offering were in line with our customers' requirements, across all sectors of our business, shop, website and corporate client", said business manager, Richard Lecoche. "I am particularly delighted with the performance of our online sales. Our monthly unique visitors, and page views have increased dramatically, with customers looking for prices, product information and our food and wine matching ideas.'

Its average price point over Christmas was £12.96 (for still and sparkling wines), with Champagne and sparkling wines up 62% on the previous year. Prosecco was the star performer, showing an uplift of 266% over 2013, but grower Champagnes also performed strongly.

Great Western Wine is hoping to bring new producers and estates into its portfolio so that it can build its online offer.
