Experimental psychologist Prof Charles Spence to shed insight into spirits

Renowned experimental psychologist Professor Charles Spence, who has worked with a host of top performing drinks brands, tops the bill at the upcoming Sprits Summit.

The new on-trade focused event will also feature speakers including Michael Vachon, founder of Maverick Drinks who will look at the UK's thirst for American craft spirits, while a Pernod Ricard expert will lead a food and spirit matching session.

Miles Beale, chief executive of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, will also deliver a keynote speech on the current state of the spirits market and the challenges ahead. The event also features a 'Spirits Stars' panel where top retailers share the secrets of their success, plus exclusive research from on-trade experts CGA Strategy.

Spence has worked on product design with drinks companies including Diageo, Pernod Ricard - Mumm and Perrier Jouet Champagnes, Wines of Argentina, PepsiCo and Twinings. He is interested in how people perceieve the world and how the brain processes information from each of our senses.

Other speakers include Ronak Mashru, on-trade sales director at Diageo and crowdfunding specialist Crowdcube, who will present a case study on how Kamm & Sons used its services to fund expansion. Founder Alex Kammerling will also present.

The event is being run by Harpers sister title, the on-trade focused Publican's Morning Advertiser and takes place on October 21 at Rich Mix in Shoreditch. It will be followed by an evening study tour of bars in the surrounding area.

It is aimed at everyone from the largest global players to the smallest of craft distillers, the summit features exclusive research, insight from top on-trade retailers, and a range of information on funding and building new craft brands.
