New members elected to Gran Orden de Caballeros for services to Spanish wine industry

María José López de Heredia and José Velo Rego are the latest figures to be inaugurated in to the Gran Orden de Caballeros for their services to the Spanish wine industry.

They were both made Caballeors at the 30th Investiture dinner held last night at the Dorchester hotel in London which featured many of the other 55 members of the Gran Orden including key figures of the UK wine trade. 

María José López of Viña Tondonia in Rioja has been part of the family winery since 1993 after having graduated with a law degree from Deusto University in Bilbao in 1991 and then acquiring a Masters in Viticulture and Oenology in 1993.

José Velo Rego has been working for Spanish wine importer, C&D Wine in the UK, for the lasts 20 years. He first moved from Spain to live in England in 1967 and prior to joining C&D he worked in the hospitality industry becoming a member of the Guild of Sommeliers.

The Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino was founded in 1984 to recognise those in the UK wine trade that have shown "exceptional endeavour in promoting the quality wines of Spain".
