Double Impact's Sobar is first alcohol-free bar in Nottingham

East Midland's charity Double Impact has opened Sobar, the region's first-ever alcohol-free bar and restaurant in Nottingham.

The restaurant will serve meals all day, coffee, juices, sodas, vintage cordials and non-alcoholic mocktails, but will also provide evening entertainment including performances by local artists and musicians.

Double Impact, a drug and alcohol charity, was able to set up Sobar after receiving a grant for £340,419 from the Big Lottery fund. The mocktail menu was designed in collaboration with bartenders from a leading bar in Nottingham.

Alex Gilmore, general manager of Sobar, said: "It is really exciting to see the months of planning and hard work come together. The venue is looking great. We have been lucky enough to receive help from the bar staff at one of Nottingham's most popular cocktail bars. Henry, Polly and Christian from Boilermaker have designed the non-alcoholic mocktail menu and provided training for our staff."

Graham Miller, chief executive of Double Impact, said: "Sobar is something completely unique. It offers a creative and amazing space for the people of Nottingham to enjoy where local talent can be showcased."

Sobar is located in the old banking hall at the former headquarters of Nottingham Building Society, which agreed to lease the premises at a reduced rate, on Friar Lane in the city centre.

Double Impact and Sobar aims to provide people on the road to recovery with work experience, training and employment.
