Actor- turned- winemaker, Sam Neill, has acquired a fourth vineyard in Central Otago, New Zealand, adding six additional hectares of Pinot Noir to his vineyard portfolio with the purchase of a Bannockburn estate called Desert Heart.

Neill said of his latest wine deal: "We've been quietly looking around for something good in this neck of the woods for quite a while now and we were very fortunate that the opportunity came up of buying a small vineyard that we've always admired - Desert Heart."

He said he had been looking in the area in order to help further differentiate his Two Paddocks range of wines. "This puts us in the unique position of being the only Central Otago winery with a footprint in all three of Central Otagos great valleys, by owning vineyards in Gibbston, the Alexandra Basin and now the Cromwell Basin. I believe it demonstrates our faith and confidence in the future of New Zealand wine, Central Otago and, in particular, Central Otago Pinot Noir."

The new purchase brings Two Paddocks planted vineyards to 19 hectares and will eventually lead to a production increase of 30%.

The addition of the yet unnamed vineyard will be used to produce the third "Proprietor's Reserves" single vineyard Pinot Noir as well as some fruit going into the production of Picnic by Two Paddocks and Two Paddocks Pinot Noir.

Two Paddocks is represented in the UK by Negociants UK.
