Social Media Week to dedicate a day to communications within the drinks industry

Published:  17 September, 2013

Social Media Week, which will be held between September 23-27 in cities across the world, will include a day of events in London focused on the drinks business in the UK and how it is using communications, particularly around Champagne, to engage with consumers.

The event, which is being billed more as a movement than a conference, aims to provide information, ideas and inspiration "to help people understand how to achieve more in a hyper-connected world".

On September 26 a special debate will be held at London's Hippodrome in Leicester Square with leading players from the drinks industry that are heavily involved in social media, including Jayne Powell, better known as Champagne Jayne and a former winner of Harpers Champagne Educator of the Year award, along with Xavier Padovani of the Experimental Cocktail Club.

It will also include a session involving TV personality Cleo Rocos, who came to fame in the 1980s by appearing in the Kenny Everett show and is now a tequila specialist, president of the Tequila Society and has her own tequila brand AquaRiva, alongsie wine journalist Jamie Goode who runs his own website, www.wineanorak.com, and social media author Susanne Currid who wrote Build Your Tribe.

The day will include a a discussion at 4pm looking at how social media powered the pop up restaurant and how impactful they have been and will finish with a Champagne Twitter tasting hosted by Champagne Jayne at 5:30pm.
