The first wine car boot fair is set to take place tomorrow in London which if successful could see similar events taking place in car parks and other suitable venues across the capital.

The idea comes from Ruth Spivey, who has worked across the London restaurant scene including Arbutus in Soho and Wild Honey in Mayfair, and will include wines from seven independent wine merchants inlcuding Roberson Wines, Bottle Apostle, Borough Wines, Noble Fine Liquor, Planet of the Grapes, Sweet Thursday and the Wine Chap. Each will present and serve wines from the back of their vans.

The car boot sale is taking place at Netil Market in east London and will give consumers the chance to taste and buy wine in what the organisers hope will be a less formal setting than a supermarket.

A £15 ticket to the car boot will give visitors the chance to taste 10 wines, and provide them with a six bottle wine carrier to buy wines to take home. People can buy more tokens to taste more wines.

The day will also include live music and food from Netail Market's Shack Alley along with street food stalls including pasta from The Cooking Cooks and fish and chips from Fin & Flounder, Taiwanese buns from Bao London, and taco's from Breddo's.

Spivey, a former model who has appeared in adverts for brands including Diet Coke, told the Evening Standard: "Wine Car Boot is a bit of tasting, a bit of learning, a bit of discovering. Hopefully it's a fun environment and will help break down barriers. Meeting the people who work in [wine] shops will help, because there are a lot of people who are intimidated to go into shops in case they say something wrong."
