Jancis Robinson MW has become only the fourth woman to become an honorary Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Vintners.

The Worshipul Company of Vintners has also made the renowned wine critic, a Freeman of the City of London, in recognition of her work.

By doing so, Robinson follows in the footsteps of three other women, The Countess of Athlone, the Duchess of Gloucester and Baroness Thatcher.

"Jancis is one of the most influential and charismatic voices in wine today," said Michael Cox, Master of the vintners livery company. "We are proud to make her an Honorary Freeman of this ancient livery company and especially in our 650th year."

To bestow the honour on Robinson, Cox performed an ancient Court of Binding ceremony with Robinson at the historic Vintners' Hall.
