North west based independent merchant Corks Out has won the 'Emporia Spirit Merchant of the Year Award' for 2012 in recognition of its successful work selling premium spirits.

The Emporia Spirits Merchant of the Year Award was set up to encourage UK independent wine merchants to broaden their knowledge of the spirits sector and to enthuse their customers by offering a broad range of high quality spirits brands in all categories.

Corks Out was founded in 2003 by Ruth Yates and now has five stores at Alderley Edge, Timperley, Chester, Heswall (Wirral) and the head office and retail shop in Stockton Heath, Warrington. Each of the stores stocks a wide range of over 200 spirits covering all categories from Absinthe and Armagnac to all types of whisky including Canadian, Irish, Japanese, Welsh and Scotch.

Presenting Corks Out owner Ruth Yates with a trophy and a bottle of 20 year old Calvados Père Magloire, James Rackham, chairman of Emporia Brands, said: "Many independent wine merchants were put forward for the Emporia Spirit Merchant of the Year award but we feel that Corks Out are deserving winners this year. We recognise the knowledge and enthusiasm of their staff and their expertise in hand-selling a superb range of premium spirits in all their retail shops and via their on-line business."
