McGuigan Wines has teamed up with celebrity chef John Torode to work on a wine and food-matching project aimed at making wine enjoyment more accessible to the consumer.

The project - details of which will be announced in the run-up to the New Year - aims to help demystify food and wine matching.

Torode is an Australian born in the Hunter Valley, but moved to the UK in the 1990s. He started presenting MasterChef on BBC1 alongside Gregg Wallace in 2005. He also runs the restaurants Smiths of Smithfield and The Luxe.

Neil McGuigan, chief winemaker for McGuigan Wines, said: "While we can't reveal much about the project just yet we are absolutely delighted to be working with John Torode on this new venture.

He added: "Following the success last year of the What's my Style? in-store campaign, we felt the next move was to try and get to grips with the whole food and wine-matching conundrum."

Torode said: "It is great to get the chance to work with a winemaker like Neil, who is passionate about how good food can enhance the flavours of wines when paired together correctly. I am really excited about this new initiative which aims to make food and wine matching approachable and fun for everyday consumers."

Details of the launch will be revealed in early 2013.
