Record primeur sales for Château Angludet

Despite trade criticism that the 2011 primeur campaign has been lack-lustre, Maison Sichel has announced a record year for its family-owned Margaux property Château Angludet.

"In terms of volume sold of Angludet the 2011 vintage ranks alongside the primeur campaigns for the much-hailed 2005 and 2010 vintages," according to Charles Sichel, one of the five Sichel brothers who own the Château and negociant.

As the 2012 harvest gets underway in Bordeaux, a total of 4,000 cases of the 2011 vintage have been sold in the UK, equalling 2005 and 2010 levels. Sales have been just under the record breaking year of 2002, when Angludet sold just over 4,000 cases.

Sichel added: "Angludet is not a wine for investment or speculation and there has been massive investment at the property since 2008 to maximise quality even more. The price of Angludet has always been considered very reasonable for a wine that consistently outperforms - many wine merchants and commentators in the UK and all over the world have expressed this view in the past few months."

Château Angludet was the first property to release its primeur wines this year at €16 per bottle (first tranche, ex-cellar to the trade from Maison Sichel).
