On-trade urged to support Love Food Give Food appeal

Published:  02 August, 2012

The UK's restaurants, pubs and cafes are being called on to help raise essential life-saving funds for millions of starving families around the world.

During September and October, businesses can join Action Against Hunger for its annual fundraising drive Love Food Give Food and do everything from donating a percentage of sales from a chosen dish to the charity to hosting a one-off event or just simply asking diners to make an optional donation when paying the bill.

Many on-trade names have already signed up including independents like Gidleigh Park, Boisdale and Pollen Street Social, to groups including Carluccio's, Ping Pong, ETM Group and Hawksmoor, with celebrity endorsement coming from the likes of Raymond Blanc, Jason Atherton, Vivek Singh, Angela Hartnett and Marcus Wareing.

Current Love Food Give Food initiatives include Hawksmoor's pledge to donate all proceeds from their Hawksmoor at Home book to Action Against Hunger as well as support from Boisdale, whose ticket sales to a series of exclusive blind whisky tasting events will all go towards the cause.

This year also sees the launch of the Supperheroes supper-club series in which London's food blogging elite turn their homes into pop-up restaurants throughout August, September and October, with all profits going directly to Action Against Hunger.

Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organisation committed to ending child hunger. To find out more or sign up go to lovefoodgivefood.org
