Club Gascon introduces wines from around the world to celebrate the Olympics

Published:  31 July, 2012

Club Gascon is to offer wines from around the world for the first time with a new tasting menu to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games.

As well as its usual range of wines specialising in the south west of France, a new tasting menu has been created at the London restaurant that looks to pay tribute to the flavours of the five continents competing in the Olympics and the Paralympic Games.

The five course menu, which is available from July 27 until September 9, has been developed by executive chef Pascal Aussignac and head chef Darren Beevers based around ingredients from the five continents: miso, eucalyptus, or chermoula that will be married with traditional Gascon products such as piperade, duck, or espelette pepper.

To ensure the wine matches the new dishes Club Gascon has chosen a wine from each of the continents including: Tatsuuma, Shiboritate Sake NV from Japan; Stellenbosch Chardonnay Hartenberg 2008 from South Africa; or Pyramid Valley Vineyards, Late Harvest Riesling 2008 from New Zealand.

The dishes include Duck Miso, Nashi Pearls and Crispy Lotus or Dorset Crab Custard, Piperade and Aromatic Avocado.

Aussignac said: "All eyes will be riveted on London this summer, so we wanted to greet the athletes, supporters and Londoners that will be in
the capital during the next month - this is our way to take part in the celebrations."

The menu is available every day and costs either £60 or £90 with wine pairing.
