PIERRE MARTIN ON REMAND, AS GROUPE MARTIN GOES INTO RECEIVERSHIP

Published:  23 July, 2008

Pierre Martin, ex-president of Groupe Martin, which owns the Bricout and Delbeck Champagne brands, together with finance director Louis Fariello and wine broker Luc Lhermite, are being held on remand following their questioning over bankruptcy, fraud and breach of trust, according to French press review VSB. The scandal relates to liabilities of E100,000 incurred through non-payment for Champagne, non-delivery of Champagne and double invoicing (see Harpers, 28 March). The group, which has 180 employees, seven million bottles of Champagne and 6,000 hectolitres of vins clairs in stock, has been placed in receivership until 16 June.
