Henschke drops Enotria for Liberty Wines

Published:  06 January, 2020

Iconic family-owned Australian wine producer Henschke has appointed Liberty Wines as its UK agent.

The winery was previously represented by Enotria & Coe.

Dating back over 150 years, Henschke is currently led by its fifth generation of family winemakers, Stephen and Prue Henschke, who took control at the winery in 1979 following the death of Stephen’s father, Cyril.

Commenting on the change in agency, Stephen Henschke said: “We have had a long history of selling our wines to customers in the UK going back to the mid-1980s, leading the fine-wine story from Australia.

“We would like to thank Enotria & Coe for their hard work over the last decade establishing a strong base for Henschke in the UK. We are confident that Liberty Wines’ expertise with Australian wines and its broad customer base will enable us to build on our success to date.”

Henschke has six vineyards: three in Eden Valley, two in the Adelaide Hills and one in Barossa. Four of these sites – the three in Eden Valley sites together with the Lenswood vineyard in the Adelaide Hills – are farmed using biodynamic principles.

David Gleave MW, MD of Liberty Wines, said: “Henschke is a world-class addition to our premium Australia portfolio, perfectly complementing our existing South Australia producers and strengthening our offering from the Eden Valley.

“Prue and Stephen’s firm commitment to quality, sustainability and innovation, combined with their wealth of very old, low-yielding vines, is giving wines of exceptional quality, which we look forward to selling.”

Henschke will be launching its wines at Liberty’s annual portfolio tasting in London on 14th January.
