Beelgara leaves Hallgarten

Published:  23 July, 2008

Hallgarten's German parent company has invested in an Australian wine company, Berton Vineyards, and has ended its distribution agreement with Beelgara as a result.

Beelgara, which sells more than 100,000 cases in the UK on-trade, is now looking for a new distributor. Tenders are now being called for distribution of the Beelgara range throughout the UK,' said Renee de Saxe, brand manager at Beelgara.

Berton Vineyards has facilities in South Australia, and has just announced the purchase of an extensive 20,000 tonne winery in Yenda, in the centre of the Riverina region in New South Wales. Formed two years ago, Berton Vineyard's main brand

is the 6.99 Head Over Heels.

Hallgarten will launch its new range from Berton Vineyards at its annual tasting at Claridge's on 19 January. The company

is also holding good stocks of wines from Beelgara and will

be working with the winery to ensure a smooth transition.

No changes to the portfolio are expected until early 2006.

Building distribution in the on-trade over the last three years has proved to be a successful strategy for us,' added de Saxe.

We are very positive about the split and we feel it offers

us a great opportunity to take our brand in the UK to the

next level. Our portfolio and the forthcoming roll out of

our new branding sees us in a very strong position.'
