Simpsons Wine Estate to showcase bumper 2018 harvest at LWF

Published:  11 April, 2019

Kent producer Simpsons Wine Estate is gearing up to unveil a number of new releases at next month's London Wine Fair (LWF).

After a bumper harvest in 2018, the estate’s owners, Charles and Ruth Simpson have produced four still wines, which will be poured alongside the first vintage of their Chalklands Classic Cuvée 2016 and two wines from their French estate, Domaine Sainte Rose.

The Simpson made wines at Domaine Sainte Rose in the south of France for 12 years before deciding to embark on a second venture in Barham, Kent, in 2014.

A total of five new wines from their 30 hectare plot on Kent’s North Downs will be available to taste for the first time at the LWF.

These include Gravel Castle Chardonnay 2018, the ‘early release’, baby brother of Simpsons’ Wine Estate’s Roman Road Chardonnay, and Rabbit Hole Pinot Noir 2018, created from low yielding Burgundian still wine clones 115 and 375.

They will also be showing their Chalklands Classic Cuvée 2016.

This is the first vintage of Simpsons’ Wine Estate’s Classic Cuvée, a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend that has spent 20 months on the lees before disgorgement in January 2019.

Simpsons focuses on the Champagne varieties for both still and sparkling wines, with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines all planted on their 30 ha plot.
