Buckingham Schenk goes veggie for portfolio update

Published:  28 March, 2019

Buckingham Schenk has bumped up its number of vegetarian-friendly wines, which now account for 70% of its wine list.

The family-focused distributor announced the increase alongside its newly released on-trade and independents list, which it updates once a year.

Organic wines and wines that are suitable for vegans and vegetarians have also been clearly signposted in the list due to increasing consumer demand, said the team.

“We now have a very targeted and esoteric selection of wines which is what we need to stand out in the on-trade and indies,” Buckingham Schenk’s managing director Craig Durham said.

“We’re very fortunate to have the backing of a family-owned wine group and to work with such outstanding producers. I have no doubt our new wine list and will help support our growth in the on trade and indies.”

This year’s portfolio contains 140 wines from 30 producers which are only available to the on-trade and independent merchants.

New producers include Cave de Cairanne from the Rhone Valley, Pormenor Vinhos from the Douro and family-owned boutique winery Tenute Tomasella from Friuli-Venezie.

Buckingham-Schenk is owned by of the Schenk Group, one of Europe’s largest family-owned wine companies.

As well as releasing an annual indies and on-trade list, it also supplies to supermarkets and national chains.
