Jascots expands Port portfolio with Vieira de Sousa
Jascots has expanded its Port portfolio with the addition of family Port House Vieira de Sousa.
Available exclusively from Jascots now, the Vieira de Sousa range offered by the wine merchant includes Fine Ruby, Late Bottled Vintage, Fine White, 10-year-old Tawny and Vintage Ports as well as the still ‘Alice’ red and white and Vieira de Sousa reserve white and red.
Describing the Ports as “strikingly elegant”, the range offered “a really compelling alternative to the very sweet and opulent wines favoured by many larger houses”, said managing partner Miles MacInnes.
“Of equal interest to our customers are the stunning still wines from the same vineyards, the ‘Alice’ range of wines, which are remarkably fresh and exceptional value,” he said, adding the Vieira de Sousa Reserva still wines were “grand and opulent expressions in the classic Douro style”.
The fifth generation Vieira de Sousa was recently revived as an independent Port house by the latest generation of the family, sisters Luisa and Maria Vieira de Sousa, who reacquired the brand in order to make their own style of “refined, elegant and complex” Ports and still wines.
The domaine had been selling its wines to two large Port houses for decades since selling the ‘Vieira de Sousa’ name in the wake of the Phyloxera crisis.
