Waddesdon Wines brings Mas Andes range to the UK

Published:  21 March, 2018

Waddesdon Wines has launched Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile three-tier Mas Andes wine range from the Maipo and Maule Valleys in the UK.

The Mas Andes portfolio comprises six wines – three Mas Andes - a pure expression of varietal style with French and Chilean grape varieties (rrp: £10); two Mas Andes Reserva - made with subtle oak-ageing providing an extra layer of richness and structure (rrp: £13) and a Mas Andes Gran Reserva, which is aged in oak barrels for eight months (rrp: £17).

Available to the UK off-trade now, the Mas Andes portfolio had been brought to the UK to replicate the success of the range in Germany, where it was launched last year, and formed part of an “international strategy” for the wines, said Emmanuel Riffaud, managing director, Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile, adding now was the right time to introduce the wines here.

“With Mas Andes, which means ‘beyond the Andes’, our objective is to go even further in the search for the expression of the Chilean terroir. We use all the diversity of this patchwork of terroirs and our French know-how to create wines with a strong identity,” he said.

Managing Director of Waddesdon Wines, Christopher Campbell, said: “Chilean wines are in growth in the UK and the forecast is for that to continue. Added to that, there is an overall trend in the towards premium still wines and so the timing is perfect.”

A subsidiary of the French company Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile bodega is located at Buin-Maipo, 45 kilometres south of Santiago in the famous Maipo region and stands in the heart of its own 60-hectare vineyard.
